We had a superb two-day meeting in the Bristol Room at the Delta Hotels Bristol City Centre this year.
There was focus on many well-known issues relating to the hip, updating the knowledge on prosthetic hip joint infection, periprosthetic fractures, revision surgery and the challenges facing surgeons now and in the future.
The session on Technology was kicked off by Derek Bennett who debated the magic and influence of robotics. John Timperley demonstrated a robotic hip operation with the advance in planning and execution when performing surgery. Michael Morlock added his exquisite brand of bioengineering knowledge to implant and broach design as well as the inadequacies of the orthopaedic mallet!
The delegates were attentive and questioning and gained the detail and further knowledge from an international faculty, which included members from Switzerland, Germany and the USA. There was healthy debate and the opportunity for delegates to interact with faculty members to develop understanding on specific hip subjects.
All present at this year’s BHAC were in vibrant form during the interactive radiographic forum. The delegates enjoyed the regular chill and chat session before the course dinner.
It was a conference filled with educational enhancement for all with an outstanding faculty and a great group of insightful delegates, which made me proud to be part of the Bristol Hip Arthroplasty Course.
With Sam and David Penford from Clockwork Medical - who have supported the BHAC for over a decade.
